Preliminary Investigation of Parish Needs
It is not a simple matter to redesign or build a church building. No two are really alike, nor have they ever been alike. However, building in the past only involved the pastor, the bishop and architects. Today, many people are integrally involved in the liturgy and parish activities.

Congregations are vocal and very different, with diverse expectations and ideas of what their church bu9ilding should be, and what it should do for them.

When a community is engaged in a building project, there is a great deal more at stake then simply constructing a structure. Such major and seemingly drastic changes can be made only after months and months of discussion, as well as the drafting of numerous notes and sketches. Every person in the parish has a voice toward the finished production.

Those meetings, plus a parish survey, are crucial events in the faith history of the individual community. How is the church building used? Is it used/needed for more than worship? If so, how best to open up and utilize space? Or is more space needed? Are staff offices needed? If so, how many? What kinds of space is needed for large and small groups that often meet at the same time? Are there multiple evening activities? Where is the baptismal font located?
